Bio

Lisa DeAngelis is a graduate of the Urbana Center for the Alexander Technique (Urbana, IL) under the instruction of Joan and Alex Murray (Carrington).  Prior to her completion of the training course, she completed her undergraduate degree in Music Education at the University of Illinois, where she graduated with highest honors, including the Bronze Tablet Award for Educational Excellence.

Lisa first began studying the Technique while pursuing her undergraduate studies, and studied for three years with Stasia Forsythe Siena.  She was drawn to the Technique initially through her classical vocal study.  Jaw pain and tension while singing had begun as an occasional annoyance, but became pervasive. Having performed and sung all her life singing was something that she did not want to give up, so she decided to be proactive about her situation.  After a short number of lessons, it was clear that the Technique not only contributed to ease in singing and reduced jaw pain, but that the principles of the Technique strongly resonated with a much larger outlook on life.

Lisa currently teaches lessons in the Alexander Technique privately in the Chicagoland area. She considers herself a passionate and driven artist and teacher, and enjoys working with voice users (singers, actors) in order to allow them to reach their full potential. She has a strong passion for children and truly believes we have much to learn from them, especially when it comes to the ease, grace, and poise with which they live and move.
